Latin software

Blitz Latin is an automatic Latin to English translation program and an electronic dictionary

  • Paste anything from a single word to a lengthy document into the translation window.
  • Choose how much information you want on the translation. You can select to see just the English translation or an analysis of the grammar and alternative meanings for each word.
  • Choose the era and origin of the Latin to reduce any ambiguity in the translation. For example you can select classical Latin, medical, scientific, medieval etc.

The dictionary can be used to look up individual words and may be searched by stem-name. It  has advantages over a printed dictionary in that the letters ‘u’ and ‘v’, and also ‘i’ and ‘j’, are virtually interchangeable in Latin (‘v’ and ‘i’ are easier to carve on inscriptions). All internal processing is carried out on the assumption that ‘v’ and ‘j’ are really ‘u’ and ‘i’ respectively. The user may select either when typing in Latin text; Blitz Latin will make an automatic conversion.

Please visit the Blitz Latin site for a full description of the software. You will also find tips and information about translating Latin and information about medieval  Latin.
